Begg Cousland supplied a major Russian customer in Summer 2005 with all the Sulphuric Acid plant process tower internals for Drying Tower, 1st and 2nd Absorbers, combining Scottish and Chinese expertise, high quality and cost competitiveness.

The scope of supply for each tower was acid-proof ceramic dome for supporting random packings, the acid-proof ceramic packings themselves, the acid distributor, and the mist eliminators. The total supply therefore was key to achieving correct levels of SO3 absorbtion and to protect downstream equipment or to control the atmospheric emissions.
All process guarantees and pressure loss guarantees have been met and the plant has an ‘invisible’ chimney exit to be proud of.
