CHEMICALS PRODUCTION - SO3/Oleum Tank Vents
When Oleum or liquid SO3 is manufactured or stored or transported, the tank or tanker involved has a vent system, through which SO3 fumes would escape, creating a pollutant haze of H2SO4 mist from condensing SO3 when it meets the outside air.
Vent gas is drawn from the tank by a fan and, by hydrolising the SO3 into H2SO4 before passing the mist air through a mist eliminator, no visible pollution remains.
