The majority of the information displayed on the pages of our website is either general, or limited by space to a summary of key points or key information.
As a company with more than 50 years' experience in demisting and gas cleaning, we have much more information and knowledge to pass on to our customers than the website can display. Therefore we have created this knowledge section to include larger documents and files, which can be downloaded by our customers, covering important topics such as Installation & Maintenance Instructions, Troubleshooting Guides , Filter Washing Guides & Mist Eliminator Design Guide. Please look in the Downloads list to find the information you want. If it is not there, then please contact us.
Please also visit our Frequently Asked Questions section. This is not only a generally helpful FAQ list, but also where you can ask a new different question. We will reply and where it may help others we will post this new FAQ on the list. It can be a filter forum for your benefit!
We would like to begin with a Glossary of Terms, however. In our business sector we have a wonderful array of names and terms - often overlapping - and we hope this list assists understanding:
Absorber
A tower or vessel or column in which a gas is contacted by a liquid to absorb some gaseous content. Sometimes known as 'Scrubber'.
^
Candle Filter
A mist eliminator in cylindrical form, with a filter bed made of fibres.
^
Chevron
An impingement type filter comprising an array of angled profile plates through which gas is passed to remove larger droplets. Also known as 'Vanes', 'Vane Packs', 'Droplet Separators', 'Demister'.
^
Coalescer
A mesh pad type filter made of co-knitted wire and fibre mesh. Used either as a first stage agglomerator to increase the collection efficiency of a demister, or as material for liquid/liquid separation.
^
Demister
Usually means a filter made of layers of knitted wire mesh. It is sometimes used to mean other types of droplet or mist eliminating devices, e.g. candle filters, vane packs. Also known as 'Mesh Pad', 'Knitted Mesh', 'Crinkled Wire Mesh Pad', 'Foam Arrestor', 'Droplet Separator'.
^
Liquid/Liquid Coalescing
The use of knitted wire materials, including fibrous coalescer material, to separate liquids of different density when the mixture is passed through it.
^
Mist Eliminator
Usually means a mist eliminator in cylindrical form, with a filter bed made of fibres. Occasionally used to mean other types of droplet or mist eliminating devices, e.g. demisters, vane packs. Also known as 'Candle Filter', 'Brinks', 'Fibre Beds'.
^
Panel Filter
A form of fibre filter, chiefly for high velocity service, with a rectangular frame and a fibre filling. Multiple panel filters are installed in polygon or square structures.
^
Scrubber
A gas cleaning equipment comprising a tower or vessel or column in which a gas is contacted by a liquid to remove gaseous, liquid, solid or odorous contaminants, often using a chemical reaction.
^
Tower Packings
Random dumped or structured forms of packing installed in a tower or vessel or column to assist the contact between a downward flowing liquid and an upward flowing gas.
Also known as 'Column Packings'.
^
Vane Packs
An impingement type filter comprising an array of angled profile plates through which gas is passed to remove larger droplets. Also known as 'Chevrons', 'Droplet Separators', 'Demister'.
